How to estimate ElevenLabs credits: a worked example
Suppose each script contains 1,000 characters, including spaces and punctuation, and you produce 20 scripts a month. With a 15% safety buffer, a 1.25× regeneration multiplier, and 1 credit per character:
- Monthly text: 1,000 × 20 = 20,000 characters.
- Text plus buffer: 20,000 × 1.15 = 23,000 characters.
- Including retries: 23,000 × 1.25 × 1 = 28,750 estimated credits.
At a confirmed rate of 0.5 credit per character, the same workload would use 14,375 estimated credits. The text length has not changed; only the credit rate has. Change the inputs in the credit calculator to match your own workload.
Characters, credits, and audio minutes are different
Characters measure the text you submit. Credits estimate generation usage at your chosen rate. Audio minutes estimate the length of the final scripts at your chosen speaking pace; this tool does not add retry time or the credit buffer to that duration.
When the text box is empty, the estimate is words × average letters per word, plus one space between words. The default 150 words and 5 letters per word therefore give 899 characters. Paste the final script for a count based on actual text, especially for translated scripts. This is a credit budget, not a dollar quote or a reading of your account balance.
